Sporadic cases of malaria appear in Greece

At least five cases of malaria acquired from local mosquitoes have recently been reported in the regions of Dytiki Ellada (4 cases) in West Greece and Sterea Ellada in Central Greece (1 case).

Advice

Outbreaks of malaria have occurred in the past in Greece. Although the risk for the general traveller is very low, travellers should still follow precautions to minimize mosquito bites, especially in the areas reporting transmission of this disease.
