Sporadic cases of Nipah virus reported in Bangladesh

So far this year, 9 cases of Nipah virus infection have been reported from 6 different districts, including Nilphamari, Ponchoghor, Faridpur, Magura, Naugaon, Rajbari. Six of the patients have died.

In Bangladesh and India, consumption of raw (unpasteurized) date palm juice contaminated with urine or saliva from infected fruit bats is the usual source of infection. Travellers should avoid consuming raw date palm juice.
