Sporadic cases of West Nile fever reported by 47 states in USA

Reported cases of WEst Nile fever have increased to 1,444 with 49 deaths so far this year. Forty-seven states and the District of Columbia have registered cases of this infection. California has reported the highest number of cases (317).

The risk for the general traveller is low, but since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers to areas where this virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
