Sporadic human cases of avian flu H7N9 continue in China

Human cases of severe respiratory avian flu H7N9 continue to occur sporadically, especially in Guangdong Province. Since the virus was first discovered, there have been 591 reported human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9). Affected provinces include Guangdong (176 cases), Zhejiang (156 cases), Jiangsu (70 cases), and Fujian (58 cases). Provinces with 1 to 50 cases include Shanghai, Hunan, Anhui, Xinjiang, Jiangxi, Shandong, Beijing, Henan, Guangxi, Jilin, Guizhou and Hebei.

While the risk for travellers is very low, visiting live poultry markets where various strains of avian influenza might be circulating should be avoided.
