Sporadic reports of West Nile Fever continue across USA

Across the USA, 47 states and the District of Columbia have reported a total of 1,820 cases and 66 deaths due to West Nile virus infections. California continues to report approximately one-fourth of all cases.

The overall risk of exposure for travellers is low. However, since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers to areas where this virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
