Spread of New Coronavirus from China - New Information

Following the diagnosis 3 days ago of the new Wuhan Coronavirus in a traveller/tourist visiting Bangkok from the city of Wuhan, China, another case was diagnosed in a traveller returning to Japan. The Japanese traveller visited Wuhan but did not have any contact with wild animal markets. Both patients have recovered. There may be very limited transmission of this virus from ill persons to very close family contacts, but person-to-person transmission appears to be very limited at this time.

There have been no new cases of this disease reported in Wuhan since 3 January.

Advice

Investigations continue to identify the source of this new virus and the risk it poses for international travellers. At present, the risk appears to be very low. However, any traveller who has visited the city of Wuhan and who develops signs of a respiratory infection (especially a high fever with some difficulty breathing) should seek medical care at once.
