Spreading measles outbreak in Brooklyn, New York

An outbreak of measles has resulted in 21 cases. The first case was introduced into the community by a traveller returning from London, England. Measles is highly contagious, and, although a high proportion of the community may be vaccinated, the virus will spread easily to any unvaccinated persons. Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of the highly contagious measles virus can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to the highly contagious measles virus by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including measles, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
