Strains of tuberculosis that are resistant to all anti-tuberculosis drugs found in Mumbai, India

Failure to complete anti-tuberculosis treatment has contributed to the finding of 12 cases of tuberculosis (TB) in the past 3 months that are totally resistant to all known anti-TB drugs. One of the 12 patients has since died.

TB is responsible for approximately 1,000 deaths per day in India.

Travellers to India can reduce their risk of exposure to TB by avoiding situations where TB transmission is likely to occur, e.g., poorly ventilated spaces with close contact with persons with active TB.

Visit our Health Library for more information on exposure to and the prevention of Tuberculosis.
