Summary of outbreak of new bird flu H7N9 in China

The outbreak of a new and serious bird flu (H7N9) in China appears to be over. In total, there were 131 cases of this new flu on the Chinese mainland, including 39 that died. Of that total, 78 H7N9 patients recovered after hospitalization. The final 14 patients are still being treated in hospitals. All of the cases were promptly isolated, and there has been no sign of human-to-human transmission. Live poultry markets are reopening. Nevertheless, travellers should consider avoiding live poultry markets for the foreseeable future.
