Suspected dengue fever cases in northern Argentina

There are up to 8 suspected cases of dengue fever and 1 probable case in Chaco Province in northern Argentina. Given its proximity to Paraguay where dengue fever is rampant, it is expected that the virus will spill over into northern Argentina. There may be many more cases in the community than are reported due to incomplete reporting, lack of access to health care in some areas, and the fact that many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and be reported to health authorities,. Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
