Suspected Maoist blast kills 13 Indian policemen Jharkhand, India

Violence between between Maoist fighters and the Indian government continued with the detonation of a powerful landmine that killed 13 policemen travelling in a minibus in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand.

Travellers should be aware that Maoist fighters have been fighting the government since 1967 in 20 of India's 28 states. Travellers in rural areas should exercise caution and avoid remote roads and areas where Maoist insurgents are active.
