Tens of thousands homeless after major quake in mountainous Sichuan, China (update)

The disastrous 6.6 magnitude earthquake in Sichuan Province has left 188 people dead, 11,00 injured and 17,000 homeless. There are many missing persons. Aid and rescue teams have struggled to reach the more remote areas due to more than 2,000 after shocks and landslides that have blocked and destroyed roads. Travellers should avoid travel in this area since essential services and transportation are severely disrupted.
