Texas Health Department reports large number of pertussis (whooping cough) cases in 2012

The Texas Department of State Health Services has reported a total of more than 1,000 cases of pertussis (whooping cough) along with 6 deaths. Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of highly contagious pertussis (whooping cough) can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to this disease by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including pertussis, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
