Thailand experiencing large numbers of dengue fever cases

Reports of dengue fever are now averaging 2,000 cases every 2 weeks with 3 or 4 deaths reported. So far this year, there have been 26,000 reported dengue fever cases along with 33 deaths. Higher numbers are expected as the rainy season approaches. There may be many more unreported cases since counting and reporting may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
