Thousands of Cambodians demonstrate in Phnom Penh

At least 10,000 Cambodians took to the streets in Phnom Penh today to protest and express anger against statements made by an opposition politician. Kem Sokha, deputy head of the Cambodia National Rescue Party, claimed that the famous Khmer Rouge prison was a story made up by the Vietnamese who ousted the Khmer Rouge in 1979.

Although this demonstration was peaceful, travellers should avoid public gatherings and demonstations as the situation can become violent without warning.
