Thousands protest for the third day in Romania

Thousands of Romanians have protested for the third straight day against a Canadian firm's plan to open what would be Europe's largest open-cast gold mine that would destroy four mountain tops and three villages. Protests are taking place in Bucharest and Cluj. In the town of Barlad, about 2000 people protested against shale gas exploration.

Although these protests have been peaceful, travellers should always avoid public gatherings and demonstrations as the situation can become dangerous without warning.
