Three states in Brazil with dengue fever risks

In Minas Gerais, there have been more than 13,500 confirmed cases statewide, along with 10 deaths. The city of Belo Horizonte has reported 581 cases.

The state of São Paulo is in the midst of a major statewide epidemic of dengue with at least 121,000 cases and 62 deaths reported by 17 cities.

In the state of Rio de Janeiro, the number of cases is 3 times the number for the same time period last year (more than 12,000 cases and 4 deaths).

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
