Torrential rains cause major flooding in Rwanda

Heavy rains across the country have caused major flooding leading to the deaths of at least 49 people and dozens of injuries. Roads have been blocked by landslides. The most affected area was the Northern Province (the Gakenke district). Other damaged areas include the Ngororero and Rubavu districts in the west, as well as Muhanga in the south.

Travellers should avoid the affected areas since essential services, including transportation, may not be available.
