Travel Alert, Nuclear Radiation - Japan

The World Health Organization has noted that, while radiation levels in Tokyo have increased slightly over general background radiation, there is no health or safety concern to suggest that travel to Tokyo and Japan should be suspended because of the nuclear crisis. Radiation levels in Toakyo are substantially below any level that would pose a risk to health. However, travellers should avoid the 30-kilometer (18.6-mile) exclusion zone around the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear complex.

Travellers returning from Japan pose no health hazard to local populations.
