This is the 1st reported case infected in Algeria since 1994. Travellers in this area of Algeria should be aware that there is a risk of exposure to West Nile fever virus. Since the report does not include the total number of cases diagnosed in Algeria, it is difficult to estimate whether the risk of exposure is low, medium or high.

Since there is no vaccine or treatment for infections with West Nile fever virus, travellers to areas where the West Nile Fever virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure to this virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
