Tropical storm strengthens to Hurricane SIMON off Mexican coast

Tropical storm SIMON, off the Pacific coast of Mexico, was elevated to hurricane status. The storm is expected to strengthen over the next 24 hours before weakening. Today, heavy rains could cause flash flooding and mudslides across Jalisco, western Sinaloa, Nayarit, and the southern tip of Baja, as well as high surf and rip currents along coastal areas. On Sunday, the heavy rain and surf will affect the southern and middle areas of Baja, California.
