Tunisia extends state of emergency for 8 months

Today the Tunisian government announced an 8-month extension of the state of emergency, which gives the security forces certain powers to enforce their orders and bans some public gatherings. The state of emergency has been in force since January 2011, and this extension also grants extra powers of intervention to end violence. Travellers should always avoid public gatherings and demonstrations in foreign countries as these situations can become violent without warning.
