Two confirmed cases of dengue fever reported in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands

A student and the principal of a school in St. Croix have been reported as confirmed cases of dengue fever. Local residents are being urged to use mosquito precautions. There may be many more cases. Counting and reporting cases of dengue may be hampered by lack of local access to health care. Many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
