Two strong earthquakes in Central Italy today

Today two strong earthquakes, one a magnitude of 5.5 and one a magnitude of 6.1, occurred in central Italy about 50 miles north of the site of the deadly August earthquake. There are early reports that dozens of people are injured, many buildings are damaged and some roads are closed. The areas around Ussita, Visso, Campi and Castelsantangelo sul Nera were the most affected by the quakes.

Advice

Travellers should avoid the affected areas due to damaged infrastructure. Before travelling to these areas, check with the Italian Civil Protection at their toll-free number: 800 840 840.
