Typhoid epidemic in Mufulira, Zambia, appears to be waning

Although a total of 2,851 possible cases of typhoid fever were treated, health officials have reported that only 40 cases are currently under treatment, and only three people have been recently admitted to hospital.

Although the situation is improving, travellers to this city can still reduce their risk of exposure to typhoid fever by being cautious and avoiding consuming contaminated food or water. Vaccination against typhoid fever should be considered, especially if unsafe food cannot be avoided.
