Typhoid Fever - epidemic continues in Harare, Zimbabwe (update)

As of early May 2012, a total of 4,185 suspected cases of typhoid fever were reported in Harare. Of these, 52 were confirmed by laboratory examinations. Since early May, reports of suspected cases have declined.

Travellers to this city can reduce their risk of exposure to typhoid fever by being cautious and avoiding consuming contaminated food or water. Vaccination against typhoid fever should be considered, especially if unsafe food cannot be avoided.
