Typhoid Fever - Epidemic in Harare, Zimbabwe, spreads but fewer cases

The typhoid fever epidemic has spread to Chitungwiza City, C (Bindura district), Mashonaland West Province (Zvimba and Chegutu districts) and Midlands Province (Chirumanzu district). As of June 3, 2012, a total of 4,769 cases have been reported.

Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to typhoid fever by being cautious and avoiding consuming contaminated food or water. Vaccination against typhoid fever should be considered, especially if unsafe food cannot be avoided.
