Typhoid fever, Negros Occidental, Philippines.

Since the beginning of 2011, health authorities have registered a total of 304 cases of typhoid fever in the province. The cases have occurred in the following locations: Kabankalan City with 48, Sagay City with 37; San Carlos City, with 35; Calatrava, with 24; Ilog, with 16; Cauayan, with 16; and Cadiz City, with 16. Three fatalities have been reported, 2 in Hinigaran town and one in Moises Padilla.

Travellers to these areas should be aware of the risk of exposure to typhoid fever and take all necessary precautions to avoid consuming unsafe food and water.
