Typhoid fever outbreak feared in Harare, Zimbabwe

Health authorities are concerned that there may be an imminent outbreak of the deadly typhoid fever. There have been large numbers of cases of dysentery in Harare’s densely populated suburbs where people are drinking water from unprotected sources. Travellers to this city can reduce their risk of exposure to typhoid fever by being cautious and avoiding consuming contaminated food or water. Vaccination against typhoid fever should be considered, especially if unsafe food cannot be avoided.
