Unidentified agent (possibly a virus) causes major outbreak of diarrhoea in Sarlahi, Nepal

An unidentified virus is probably the cause of a large outbreak of diarrhoea in village in Sarlahi district of Nepal. Approximately 200 cases were seen in one day at the local health post. Travellers to this area can reduce the risk of exposure to gastrointestinal illness by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If visiting this area and gastrointestinal symptoms develop, e.g., vomiting and watery diarrhoea, seek medical care at once since the infectious agent has not yet been identified.
