"Unknown illness" in Nigeria turns out to be methanol poisoning

The “unknown illness” that caused 18 men to die suddenly (some reports claim 28 deaths) in Ondo State has been identified as methanol poisoning due to consumption of an adulterated alcoholic drink called gin and herbs. Travellers should avoid any locally produced alcoholic beverage. Only unadulterated alcohol from known manufacturers should be consumed.
