Unusual outbreak of respiratory enterovirus EV-D68 may be decreasing in USA and Canada

While reports of sporadic cases in children of the unusual respiratory enterovirus EV-D68 continue to be reported in Canada, the larger outbreak in the USA may be slowing. The Center For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that 34 states and the District of Columbia reported low or declining activity of this virus. However, 8 states reported elevated activity, and one state reported increasing activity.

Since this virus is transmitted through the air like flu (influenza), the same general precautions such as maintaining a small distance (1 meter) from a person with a respiratory illness and frequent hand washing will help reduce the risk of infection.
