Update on Ecuador volcanos

Cotopaxi: Local authorities have restricted all access to the Cotopaxi volcano in Cotopaxi province (south of Quito). The Cotopaxi National Park is still open for visitors at this time. There is a yellow alert for mud and volcanic rock flows for the areas along the following rivers: Cutuchi, Barrancas, Alaques and Saquimala in Cotopaxi province; Pita, Salto and Santa Clara and San Pedro rivers in Pichincha province; and Tambo and Tamboyacu rivers in Napo province

Reventador: Authorities advise visitors against attempting to climb this volcano, and an orange alert is in place for the immediate areas around the volcano (along Napo, Orellana and Sucumbios provinces) due to renewed high volcanic activity.

Tungurahua: Authorities continue to restrict access to this volcano and there is a yellow alert for the volcano and surroundings in Tungurahua and Chimborazo provinces

Guagua Pichincha: Authorities have restricted access until further notice.

Anyone planning to climb one of Ecuador´s volcanoes should contract with an official mountaineering guide.
