The Jamaican government has declared a state of emergency in Saint James Parish due to a spike in murders, shootings and theft and have deployed military forces to deal with crime. A curfew has been imposed in both St. James and St. Catherine parish. There have been reports of sexual assaults at tourist resorts carried out by resort staff and sometimes by other tourists.
Advice
If you are already in Jamaica, stay within your resort compound. If you leave the resort, only use transportation arranged or provided by the resort or organized tour operators. Be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. The state of emergency could be extended up to three months.
