US authorities report 4,226 cases of whooping cough so far this year

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported a total of 4,226 cases of pertussis (whooping cough) from across the country. New York State has reported 13 % while Wisconsin has reported the most (618 cases) so far this year.

Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of the contagious pertussis (whooping cough) can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to this infection by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including pertussis, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
