Venezuela: 30-day state of emergency declared

The government of Venezuela has declared a 60-day nationwide state of emergency due to the economic crisis. The state of emergency will likely continue into 2017.

There are severe shortages of water and electricity. There are also shortages of food, basic supplies, as well as medicines, medical supplies, and medical equipment.

Street protests, both for and against the government, are increasing. There has been looting by people desperate for supplies.
