Violence used to halt demonstration in Bahrain

Tear gas and armoured vehicles were used to halt hundreds of protesters advancing toward Pearl square where pro-reform demonstrations have protested previously. Protesters were demonstrating following the death of a government opposition leader Ali Hasan al-Dehi, who died after reportedly being severely beaten by riot police.

Travellers should be exercise caution and avoid all public demonstrations since they may become violent unexpectedly. Some countries are advising their citizens to reconsider travelling to Bahrain at this time.
