Violent confrontation in South Sudan results in dozens of deaths

Dozens of unarmed civilians were killed and hundreds were kidnapped when a heavily armed militia attacked tribesmen during a weekend cattle drive along the Sobat River, near the Ethiopian border. The assailants are members of the Murle ethnic group and the victims were the Lou Nuer, two factions that have been battling for some time over grazing lands and water rights. Travellers should be aware that several countries advise their citizens to avoid all travel to South Sudan due to lack of personal security.
