Violent confrontations between Turkish police and Kurds in southeast Turkey

Police had to use water cannon and tear gas against stone throwing Kurdish protesters in south-east city of Diyarbakir. Elsewhere, militants in the region detonated a bomb which wounded 12 police officers, none seriously.

Travellers to this area should exercise extreme caution and avoid all public and political demonstrations since they may become violent without notice. Some countries advise their citizens to reconsider travelling near the Turkish border with Iran, Iraq or Syria.
