Violent protests over an anti-Muslim film continue and spread in Middle East

Although the recent violence against the US embassies in Cairo, Egypt, and Benghazi, Libya, has been condemned by authorities and some members of the general population, violent protests continue throughout the Middle East. Protests took place outside US missions in Morocco, Sudan, Bangladesh, Lebanon and Tunisia. In some countries, protesters have been killed by security forces. The attacks have spilled over into attacks against the German and British embassies in the Sudan and the Swiss embassy in Iran. The Benghazi airport was closed for a period of time. More and larger demonstrations have been called for.

At this time, western travellers should exercise caution if travelling in the Middle East. All public demonstrations should be avoided since they may become violent against westerners and western interests at any time.
