Warning for travellers - malaria cases quadruple in Almeria area of Spain

Since 2010, the number of cases of malaria in the Almeria area have increased fourfold. All these cases have occurred in travellers, many of whom are immigrants who visit their home countries and return from Africa with malaria.

Travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites and by taking anti-malaria medication when it is recommended.
