Weakened typhoon BOPHA reverses course to hit northwestern Luzon as a tropical storm (update)

Typhoon BOPHA, now categorized as a tropical storm, is scheduled to circle back from the South China Sea and sweep the northwestern coast of Luzon in the Philippines. Meanwhile, in the south, the fallout from the typhoon includes 540 deaths, 850 people missing, more than 1,000 injured and crop damage estimated at $195.38 million, mostly in the Mindanao provinces of Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental. About 370,000 people are still in temporary shelter areas. Travellers should monitor local storm bulletins and take shelter when necessary.
