West Nile fever cases and deaths increasing in the USA (update)

As of mid-August, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has received reports of 693 cases of West Nile fever from 32 states. There have been 26 deaths reported. Most of the cases and deaths have been reported from Texas.

Although the overall risk for travellers is low, mosquitoes infected with the West Nile fever virus have been found in many locations in many states. Travellers to areas where the West Nile Fever virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure to this virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
