West Nile fever cases appear to be increasing in Romania

There are reports of an increased number of people infected with the West Nile fever virus from many counties including the capital city of Bucharest. A total of 40 cases have been reported and at least 4 of them have died.

Advice For Travellers

The risk of exposure for the average traveller is low, but since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers to areas where this virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
