West Nile fever cases reported throughout Canada

So far in 2012, a total of 421 cases of West Nile fever have been reported from all provinces and territories in Canada. Of these, 129 cases have involved the central nervous system (brain inflammation). Roughly half the cases have been reported from Ontario. No deaths have been reported. Since there is no vaccine or treatment for infections with West Nile fever virus, travellers to areas where the West Nile Fever virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure to this virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
