As of late September, 35 cases of West Nile fever were hospitalised with 3 deaths in Serbia. West Nile fever virus can be acquired throughout Balkan countries at this time of year. Since there is no vaccine or treatment for infections with West Nile fever virus, travellers to areas where the West Nile Fever virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure to this virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
