West Nile Fever in the USA

Twenty-three states and the District of Columbia have reported a total of 124 cases of West Nile Fever nationwide. There have been 7 deaths. California has reported the highest number of cases (19), followed by Louisiana (14) and Arizona (12). Although this infection remains rare at this time, there are many reports from other states of mosquitoes infected with this virus.

Since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers to areas where this virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
