West Nile Fever in USA - bi-weekly summary

So far this season, there have been 301 reported cases of West Nile virus disease in people. However, 43 states have reported West Nile virus infections in people, birds, or mosquitoes. About 45 percent of the infected people have involvement of their central nervous system. There have been 7 deaths. States with 10 or more reported cases include Arizona, California, Colorado, Mississippi and Texas.

This virus is now widespread in the USA, and wherever, this virus has been found, travellers can minimize their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. There is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever.
