West Nile Fever in USA - bi-weekly summary

So far this year, 46 states and the District of Columbia have reported 1,162 people infected with West Nile virus. Of these, 35 people have died from their infections. States that have reported 100 or more cases include California, Colorado, South Dakota and Texas. States that have reported 50 to 99 cases include Arizona, Illinois, Nebraska and North Dakota.

Advice For Travellers

While the risk of exposure for the general traveller is low, there may be areas where there is significant transmission of this virus. Since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers to areas where this virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
