West Nile Fever in USA - minor increases over past week

So far this season, there have been 493 reported cases with 15 deaths. States reporting 10 or more cases include Arizona, Arkansas, California (highest number, 108 cases), Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Washington. Infections by this virus in people, birds, or mosquitoes have been reported by 45 of the 50 states.

Advice For Travellers

While the risk for the general traveller is low, since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers to areas where this virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
